Common sense

What is common sense? Officially defined as sound and prudent judgment based on a simple perception of the situation or facts. Common sense ‘in action’ is best demonstrated by Thomas Paine’s famous introduction in his incendiary pamphlet, Common Sense, that challenged the authority of the British government and the royal monarchy. It reads as follows:

Perhaps the sentiments contained in the following pages, are not YET sufficiently fashionable to procure them general favour; a long habit of not thinking a thing WRONG, gives it a superficial appearance of being RIGHT, and raises at first a formidable outcry in defense of custom. But the tumult soon subsides. Time makes more converts than reason.

While my pursuit of business knowledge is many times less lofty than challenging the supremacy of the British monarchy…I feel silly even writing such an obvious remark…I nonetheless hope to channel the same brand of wisdom here when I happen to challenge the status quo of conventional business thought :)
